Unterwegs: Owls by nature in Köln

(D) Da ich bei den werten Damen und Herren von Lieblingstape einen Gästelistenplatz +1 gewonnen hatte, ging es für mich und die Pausenmusikerin gestern Abend nach Köln. Ins Blue Shell – Lieblingslocation und so. Kaum zu glauben, dass unser letzter Besuch dort schon beinahe ein Jahr her ist.

Wie dem auch sei, Owls by nature haben gestern dort im Zuge ihrer The Hunted Tour gespielt und ich muss ja ehrlich gestehen, dass ich von der Band vorher noch nie so wirklich etwas gehört hatte. Erst als ich erfahren habe, dass ich wohl hingehen werde, hab ich mir auf Youtube den Song Hurricane angehört, der mir auf Anhieb gefallen hat.

Meine Begleitung und ich hatten beim Bandnamen wohl die gleichen Assoziationen und haben uns beide eine Frau am Gesang vorgestellt – wie auch immer – aber wir haben ja dann festgestellt, dass dem nicht so ist.

Owls by nature, das sind 5 Bandmitglieder. Zwei Gitarren, ein Bass, ein Keyboard/Banjo und ein Schlagzeuger. Zusätzlich natürlich noch der Gesang und eine seltsame Gerätschaft, deren Namen ich leider nicht kenne – dafür hab ich ein schlechtes Foto davon!

Musikalisch war ich, wie oben bereits angedeutet, wirklich positiv überrascht von der Band. Ich höre im Moment sowieso sehr gerne Folk und da hat das gestern wirklich super gepasst. Dabei muss man sagen, dass der Band die Punkeinflüsse auch deutlich anzumerken sind und es nicht alles nur ruhig und entspannt war.

Owls by nature machen aber vor allem eines: gefühlvollen, mitunter rauhen Folk der durch die Texte sowie das gesamte Auftreten der Band einfach mitreißt. Für mich hat die Band, wie ich finde, eine perfekte Mischung gefunden, die beim Publikum auch sehr gut ankommt.

(EN) After I won tickets for Owls by nature's show in Cologne yesterday evening, my friend joined me, since the Blue Shell is our very favourite location and we had not been there for nearly a year.

However that be, Owls by nature stopped there on their „The Hunted Tour“ and I have to confess that I never really heared some songs by them before. Only when I found out I got to visit the concert, I took a listen on the song „Hurricane“ which really impressed me.

My friend and me really had the same associations with the bandname and thought that they had to have a female singer – because of the owls, but whatever.

The band consists of five members – two guitars, a bass player, keyboard/banjo and drums. Additionally there is, of course, the singer and one instrument I can't really name – instead I made a cheesy picture of it.

Musically the band really suprised me in a positive way. I listen to a lot of folk at the moment, so for me everything fit well. At this point I have to say that the band has really obvious punk influences, so that it's not only quiet music.

For the main part, Owls by nature do one thing: expressive, but also rough folk, that catches the audience with its lyrics and the whole appearance of the band.

For me, the band found a great mixture between reflective lyrics and and the sense of life they carry with their music.
